The Coastal Branch meets monthly in Savannah or the surrounding area.
Minutes of the Jan 25th meeting of the coastal branch of the Georgia APWA
The meeting was called to order by the Chairman Joe Wilson
Joe asked if there were any first time attendees, Donald Syme of the Chatham County mosquito control was recognized.
Mike Joyner presented a plaque to Alvin Brown for many years of support and for being a former Chapter president. Alvin retired from the City of Savannah on January 31st.
Mike Joyner also talked about the CPWM classes being held in Athens, they were taking place the next day thru the 28th. Mike also mentioned the equipment show scheduled for February 8th in Perry.At the time he said they had 79 vendors and over 600 attendees pre-registered. He also mentioned that there will be a 3 hour training class held in the afternoon.
Robert Drewry motioned to approve the minutes of the meeting from November 9th 2010, it was seconded by Buddy Bishop.
Joe Wilson then talked about the equipment show and how important it was to support it, and the vendors.
Robert Drewry wanted to recognize the former officers, Iris Ellsberry-Smith, John Bonam, Al Lipsey and Buddy Bishop. He also asked everyone to try and help Carey Purvis secure more sponsors.
Old business: no old business was brought up.
New Business: Joe Wilson talked about incentives to attract more people to the meeting, and discussed some of the topics he considered to help do that. He said that after talking to Mike Joyner, that the state chapter would give us $250 to use for awards and incentives. He also mentioned that he would like a Hot Topics , forum type discussion to address problems you are having trouble solving. Joe discussed having meetings in different places to help attract more members, he mentioned having meetings in Richmond Hill and possibly even St. Simons.
Scott Williams from Eco-Power, a division of Safety Kleen was introduced and he gave a presentation on eco-friendly motor oils that they produce. These oils are made from re-refined motor oil. It is a very unique product and drew a lot of attention from the group. Scott told us about his distributor, Halco lubricants, out of Augusta or Atlanta. He also said they do not have a retail presence in the U.S.

Minutes of the September 13th Coastal branch meeting
The meeting was called to order by the Chairman Joe Wilson , he asked if there was any old business. Robert Drewry announced that the scholarship deadline for District 1 was extended until the end of September.
Joe Wilson then asked if there was any new business, there was nothing mentioned so Joe asked that anybody that may know of a potential sponsor for future meeting to please let us know.
Mr. Robert (Bobby) Marr from the City of St. Mary’s was introduced , Bobby is trying to develop a branch for the lower eastern part of the state, district 11. Joe Wilson and Buddy Bishop are going down on the 15th of September for their initial meeting to try and help them out.
Carey Purvis introduced Alan Arnsdorff of Yancey brothers who was our meeting sponsor. Alan is the Sales representative for Chatham and Effingham counties. Alan introduced Bubba Banks who is the sales representative for the south eastern counties. He then introduced Ricky Hale who is the product support representative. Tom Rhodes who is the product manager and Terry Chavis who is the operator trainer. Alan then talked about Caterpillar machines and leasing options available to everybody. He explained that while Cat products may be higher priced they are often the better deal. Often times the return on your investment is much higher for Cat products. He offered information brochures for anybody interested in products or leasing options.
Having no other business, Alan ended the presentation and lunch was served.

Subject: Fall Board Meeting Branch Report (Marriott Hotel - Augusta Ga.)
Activities/Announcements
Coastal Branch meetings were held on Tuesday, May 11th and Tuesday, September 14th. The May meeting was sponsored by Lafarge North America and held at the Pirates House in Savannah. Hugh Papy, sales manager, introduced the company representative to the group.
They showed a PowerPoint presentation on Agilia, a self-consolidating concrete that requires no vibration to get a final surface finish. Hugh Papy, sales manager, introduced the company representatives. The chapter business section of the meeting was conducted prior to the presentation. Thirty-one (31) people attended the meeting.
The September meeting sponsor was Reynolds-Warren Equipment. Dan. Dwyer, Vice President of Reynolds–Warren, gave a short PowerPoint presentation on various maintenance and paving equipment that his company sales. In addition, Christy Lovett, LTAP Director, spoke briefly about LTAP training courses. As usual, the chapter business meeting was conducted prior to the presentation. The meeting was held at the Hilton Garden Inn located at 5711 Abercorn Street in Savannah. Twenty-five people attended the meeting.
The next Coastal Branch meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 9th at 11:30 am. The sponsor of the meeting is Pine Hall Brick Co. They will give a presentation on Permeable Clay Pavers. In addition, election for new officers will be conducted at this meeting. The meeting is scheduled to be held at Ryan’s Steakhouse, 209 Stephenson Avenue, Savannah.
